Leadership on the up at KONE – with training for staff in 3 countries

KONE wants to help its people flourish in their roles – and grow within the organisation. To support senior managers as well as possible, KONE turned to Atlas. Olowine van der Mersch, Senior Learning & Development Manager, talks us through our leadership programmes.

How to lead leaders – in BE, LU and FR

Olowine is a well-established figure at KONE. She’s worked for the international group for 21 years, currently as L&D manager for Belgium, Luxembourg and France. She took on that role a year and a half ago, full of enthusiasm and with a clear mission.

”I wanted to design a new, comprehensive leadership programme for senior management. So I went looking for a partner to support me and deliver training across our 3 countries.

Atlas had already been working successfully with KONE since 2019. Positive experiences from colleagues, including with our webinars and sales training, meant Olowine also landed on Atlas for this new leadership programme.

From suspicion to raging enthusiasm

Leadership training in France and Luxembourg also means… doing it in French. Pas de problème pour nous! Delivering French-language training is right up Yves Gadisseux‘s street. Although there was a bit of suspicion involved at first.

By now, Yves is a regular face at the company’s domestic and international offices. “What’s more: he’s specifically requested for individual mentoring and various other training sessions.”

”L&D is a people's business. What makes a training company like Atlas so special is the people. Every trainer I've seen in action has been exceptionally good.

Little theory, lots of practice

Besides Yves, Olowine has also worked with Gwen Kuylen, Gert Van den Abbeele and Frederik De Waele. And those trainers get a warm welcome too. “Every new group looks forward to the training with real enthusiasm, because they hear so much positive feedback from their colleagues. That makes it much easier to motivate people to take part.”

So what kind of praise goes around? “Well, Atlas is different from other training companies. They approach every session creatively and focus less on theory, more on practice. No slides, but flip charts and gripping storytelling with plenty of examples. That’s why the training sticks with participants for a long time, and they actually use the insights in their day-to-day work. Plus: they walk the talk. They deliver on their promises. That matters to me.”

”Atlas knows how to respectfully challenge everyone's mindset and approach, and get people thinking. That helps them grow faster than someone who just rattles off theory.
